Poem

"A Sad Day" in senryu and linked tanka

unknown day smoke shroud
a bullet to his head killed
hero of some war fought

the same all history's years
presidents attack men die

winners equal lost
in time we all lose in war
senseless waste of life

old vet looking back sadly
youth robbing youth of life's joy

uniform all's left
reminding only the few
death's futility

the wounded also
great heroes marked today
life's pain remembrance

grave ashes just dead
cold stone marks their lives now gone
hopeless death still death

yet we salute sacrifice
celebrating veterans
you our war heroes always

Author's Comments:
forgive me. this is a very bad day for me each year. the older I get the worse it becomes. remember back with me the wars of the past. our enemies are our friends now. what has anyone gained. will we ever learn and become the human beings God intended us to be or will we always be just His most intelligent animal. technically, what your are reading is a group of linked senryu with the first two poems being tanka and then 4 linked senryu. cole, of the forgotten war.
