Poem

The Bairn (The Baby) Now in audio

Hear this poem in the author's voice

Whit's this thing ma mammies brought in
It's wee an wrinkly an awfy thin
Screamin an slabberin tae two in the morn
Sounds comin oot like a ships fog horn

Sooks on her nipples an still she smiles
Came oot her bum an guied her piles
Honest, it's true she telt me this
Then there's the poo an stink oh piss

Ma wee sisters, an angel they say
Mair like the devils came hame tae play
When naebodys lookin ah try tae see
Whit awe the fuss is, maybe it's me

Am no jealous ah jist want tae know
Will she ever talk, ah don't think so
Every day she gets a bit fatter
Mammie says she'll be full oh patter

Crawlin aboot getin up tae nae good
Grabin ma toys an pinchin ma food
Ma jobs tae watch that she comes tae nae harm
Think ah'll take her tae Jimmy's farm

She can roll wae the pigs
While ah gather some sticks
Follow the spider
An ah'll sneak up beside her

Well maybe no, she's a lassie yae ken
When she's older she can play in ma den
Today she smiled an she's really quite cute
Fur noo ah'll watch an she can stay put

Ah yes my dear ... I do understand! This is so cute - love the dialect and it is so true to what a young one feels when a wee one comes to the family.
I love it!
